heavy duty parts washer
Video Description
This custom heavy duty parts washer is inspired by a Caterpillar D10 dozer fuel tank… and it’s built for the kind of work standard equipment can’t handle. The parts we deal with are bigger, heavier, and far messier than what most off the shelf units can handle, so this build is about creating something that actually suits our workshop and will look awesome. This is a heavy duty fabrication project using sheet metal and a fabricated steel base to create a parts washer with more capacity, better access, and real workshop practicality. We start with sheet metal, measuring and marking out panels before squaring everything up and tacking together the main tank. At this size, keeping it all straight while managing distortion becomes one of the biggest challenges. At the same time, the base frame is fabricated from SHS steel to support the weight of the tank and whatever ends up inside it, while keeping everything aligned and level. Once both sections are ready, the tank is lifted into position with the overhead crane and test fitted onto the base to see how everything lines up. A few issues show up along the way. The heavier piano hinges don’t match the original design, which creates clearance problems between the fold down door and the main lid. From there it’s a matter of working through it and making adjustments to get everything operating properly. This is just the beginning. There’s still more fabrication to go, along with the pump and filter system and final fit out before this becomes a fully functional heavy duty parts washer.
