Officers were called to Liverpool and Fairfield hospitals after five men arrived with gunshot wounds following what police believe was a targeted attack in Canley Heights. 28-year-old Alai Ahio died after suffering critical injuries, while four other men — aged between 19 and 32 — remain in hospital, with two in critical condition. Police have established a crime scene at a home on Arbutus Street, where detectives uncovered shattered glass, abandoned personal items and signs of a violent confrontation. Investigators also seized two vehicles believed to have transported the injured men to the hospital. Authorities are examining possible links to the Coconut Cartel and the Alameddine crime network, rivals at the centre of a wave of shootings and firebombings across Sydney this year. NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon described the violence as showing a “complete disregard for human life” as homicide detectives continue their investigation.
