In this inspiring talk, Hayfe Chamkhi explores how families and local communities can shape the future of conservation in fragile ecosystems like Bouhedma. Through field experiences, wildlife research, and community stories, she reflects on the importance of reconnecting people with nature and building an intergenerational culture of care for biodiversity. Hayfe Chamkhi is a wildlife ecologist dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity and strengthening the connection between nature and local communities. She holds a Master’s degree in Biodiversity, Ecology & Evolution from Georg-August University of Göttingen and has led conservation initiatives across Tunisia, North Africa, and Mongolia, with a special focus on predator ecology, pollinator ecology, and dryland ecosystems. As co-founder and project manager of of the Tunisian NGO North African Wild Traces (NAWT), formerly ATRAkouda, she develops participatory biodiversity monitoring programs and builds partnerships with international conservation organizations.
