Courtesy of DZMM TeleRadyo Newly appointed Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino defended Friday his decision to suspend DOLE Region 3 chief Geraldine Panlilio on his first day on the job, saying he conducted his own investigation. “Alam niyo po, bago naman ako nag-suspend nun, nagkaroon po ako ng personal investigation din. Kakausap ko rin sila, kausap ko naman po yun. Hindi naman po yan agad-agad. Inalam ko rin ang background, kinausap ko siya at magkakaharap kami na ako mismo nag-imbestiga.” “Under the administrative code, mayroon akong prerogative na gawin yun so as not to affect the investigation.” Panlilio was placed under one-month preventive suspension ordered pending an investigation into the collapse of a nine-story building in Angeles City, Pampanga, over the weekend that killed four people. A video of Tolentino announcing her suspension seemed to show Panlilio being caught by surprise by the announcement.
