Black Friday 2025
Video Description
In this video, I investigate why Britain has Black Friday, even though it doesn’t have Thanksgiving, the holiday it supposedly sprang from. It’s a bit like celebrating a wedding anniversary when you weren’t actually at the wedding. Or married. We’ll explore the real origins of Thanksgiving, including the first one in 1621, featuring Pilgrims, Wampanoag people, and absolutely zero inflatable turkeys from supermarkets. We’ll also look at what Americans actually eat on the day, which is mainly beige food held together by gravy and emotional tension. Then there’s Black Friday, which started in the US as a shopping frenzy and somehow migrated to the UK, who looked at it and thought, “Yes, trampling each other for discounted kettles seems very British.” Along the way, we uncover the very real British connections to the whole story, including the Mayflower ship, the Mayflower Pub in London, and Pocahontas’ burial site in Gravesend, because history apparently decided to hide a Disney film plot behind a Wetherspoons. If you like UK vs USA culture, weird history, British connections to American traditions, or just watching an American try to explain themselves, this video is for you. #BlackFriday #Thanksgiving #AmericanInTheUK #BlackFridayUK #HistoryNerd #TheTudorYank #BlackFridayDeals #BlackFridaySales
