Video Description
Vote counting is underway in South Korea's first local elections since Lee Jae Myung became president last year. Major gains are expected for his ruling Democratic Party. Exit polls project victory in 11 of 16 mayoral and provincial posts. More than 44 million people were eligible to vote. The election commission said turnout was at a record high of more than 60% — the highest since the first local elections in 1995. However, there has been controversy over the increasing number of foreign residents allowed to vote as the immigrant population grows. Lim Yun Suk reports from Seoul.
