Accident: PAL DH8D at Halifax on Dec 28th 2024, main gear collapse on landing By Simon Hradecky, created Sunday, Dec 29th 2024 10:30Z, last updated Wednesday, Jan 8th 2025 15:06Z A PAL Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of Air Canada, registration C-GPNA performing flight AC-2259 from St. John's,NL to Halifax,NS (Canada) with 73 passengers and 4 crew, had landed on Halifax's runway 23 at 21:13L (01:13Z Dec 29th) when the crew declared Mayday, Mayday after the left main gear had collapsed, the left wing contacted ground, sparks and fire were briefly visible, also mentioned by tower. The aircraft was evacuated. The Canadian TSB opened a Class 3 investigation stating: "During the takeoff from CYYT, the number 1 main wheel tire (left outboard tire) failed, leaving tire portions on the runway. Neither the blown tire condition, nor the tire debris on the runway at CYYT was noticed during the flight, and the aircraft continued to destination. Following touchdown on Runway 23 at CYHZ the blown tire imbalance led to a vibration that caused the left main landing gear stabilizer brace to become unlocked and allow the left main landing gear to collapse. As the landing gear collapsed, the left propeller contacted the runway surface. There was a left engine fire, and the crew activated the engine extinguisher system. The aircraft came to rest on the runway and 73 passengers and 4 crew members evacuated with no reported injuries. The TSB is investigating." I hope you enjoyed this video! Wishing you all the best!
