These covers absorb repeated impacts from the blades while protecting the expensive steel cylinders underneath from damage. To install a new cover, the flexible polyurethane sheet is carefully wrapped around the rotating drum and aligned edge to edge. The interlocking seam is then tapped together with a dead blow mallet until the joint fully locks into place and forms a nearly continuous surface. Precise alignment is critical because even tiny gaps or raised edges can affect cutting accuracy, material tracking, and wear patterns at high operating speeds.
