Rajinikanth also noted that there is a 28-year age gap between him and Vijay, stating that Vijay has independently earned recognition by standing against the two major political parties. "I was extremely shocked when I heard that Vijay had become the Chief Minister. I am not in politics; it has been many days since I stepped away from politics. The actor said he decided to hold the press conference because repeated criticism regarding his political stance and his meeting with Stalin could eventually be perceived as truth if left unanswered. “I am holding this press meet because many criticisms are being made about me in connection with the election. Rajinikanth also defended his meeting with Stalin after the election results, stating that their relationship transcends politics. “Our friendship is beyond politics. I felt saddened that MK Stalin was defeated in Kulathur. Rajini is not a cheap or low-standard person to speak unnecessarily about anything else,” he remarked. Rajinikanth also addressed criticism over his reaction to Vijay becoming Chief Minister. "It was said that I did not congratulate Vijay at the airport.
