It is carrying an insect larva to a nesting cavity excavated within the tree. Brown-headed Barbets often increase their use of protein-rich insects during the breeding season to feed developing chicks. The species creates nest chambers by chiseling circular entrance holes into dead or decaying wood. Common across the Indian subcontinent, these birds inhabit orchards, gardens, wooded areas, and forest edges.
