Video Description
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the Netherlands as part of his multi-nation Europe tour, and the visit became one of the biggest technology and semiconductor stories of the week. During talks in The Hague with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, India and the Netherlands upgraded their relationship into a broader strategic partnership focused on semiconductors, AI, clean energy, trade, and advanced manufacturing. The biggest highlight of the visit was the signing of a major semiconductor agreement between Tata Electronics and ASML. ASML is one of the world’s most important technology companies because it manufactures advanced lithography machines used to produce modern computer chips. Many experts consider ASML’s machines essential for making high-end semiconductors used in smartphones, AI systems, defence equipment, automobiles, and data centers. Under the new agreement, ASML will support Tata Electronics in developing India’s first major front-end semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Reports say the project is worth around $11 billion and is expected to become a cornerstone of India’s semiconductor ambitions. The facility is planned to manufacture chips for sectors such as automotive electronics, mobile devices, artificial intelligence, telecom systems, and industrial technology. During the signing ceremony, Modi described the Tata-ASML partnership as a major step toward building a strong semiconductor ecosystem in India. He said India’s semiconductor push would create huge opportunities for Indian youth and reduce dependence on foreign chip imports. The Indian government has already committed billions of dollars in incentives under its Semiconductor Mission to attract global technology companies and create domestic chip manufacturing capacity. The deal is also strategically important because ASML technology is considered highly sensitive globally. The Dutch company plays a central role in the global semiconductor supply chain, and many countries are competing for access to its advanced equipment. Analysts say India securing deeper cooperation with ASML signals growing international confidence in India’s manufacturing ecosystem and long-term technology ambitions. Apart from semiconductors, Modi’s Netherlands visit also included discussions on green hydrogen, clean energy, AI collaboration, defence cooperation, logistics, and innovation partnerships. The two countries also announced cooperation in critical minerals and renewable energy supply chains. Another symbolic moment during the visit was the return of centuries-old Chola copper plates from the Netherlands to India. Subscribe to FactTechz
