Video Description
This is the moment the vintage Huron slotting attachment faces its final test. After the tear down and cast iron weld repair, the rebuild moves into its final stage. First up, the housing goes into the sandblasting cabinet to strip back decades of old paint before being cleaned and everything goes back together piece by piece. Surface rust comes off, old bearings are pressed out using the 150 tonne press, and new bearings go in to bring the conrod assembly back into spec. With the main housing back together it is prepped and given a coat of Zayer blue paint before all the hardware is fitted. And the small details don’t go quietly. One pesky rivet on the identification plaque refuses to move, forcing a change of plan when there are no spare rivets on hand. Instead, the housing gets tapped so the plaque can be screwed back on properly. The new 3D printed flexible way wipers are ready to go, but the bolt holes are tight and need to be tapped to clean them up before everything fits the way it should. Finally with all the pieces assembled the completed attachment can be installed onto the universal head of the Zayer bed mill. Then comes the real test. Power goes on, the ram cycles, and the rebuild shows exactly what all the work has achieved. What started out cracked, worn, and destined for scrap now looks and runs like new. Missed Parts 1 & 2?
