Video Description
My second last time I make a "history" video. My Second Channel: @MatchiPoko I stream on Twitch now: https://www.twitch.tv/mattiaspilhede Twitter: https://x.com/mattiaspilhede/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/mattiaspilhede.bsky.social Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mattiaspilhede Correction: -The flag of Ezo as used in this video was not the official flag of Ezo. It's so commonly used to represent Ezo that I mistook it for being the real thing. Apparently this is a common mistake, and even Japanese sources mistake it as the real flag. More likely, Enomoto Takeaki would've probably used the naval ensigns used by the Shogunate (my guess). However, there still is a connection to Enomoto Takeaki and the current flag of Hokkaido. The red star was not used until after the colonization process of Ezo/Hokkaido began, which was led by Kuroda Kiyotaka and Enomoto Takeaki. So the flag of Hokkaido would actually be an adaptation of the use of a symbol used by the later colonization office. -To be clear, the term Republic was never officially used by Enomoto Takeaki and was a nickname that later became used when addressing Ezo. This video was made for entertainment do not use this as a source. If you're disappointed I left something out; it's simply because it was made to be an entertaining account with very limited time. It's also emphasized with comedic effect, it's not intended to be "the" re-telling, it's intentionally limited for additional effect and contrast between characters. It feels a bit weird to say "read Wikipedia for more information", because while that would fail me in class if it were used as a source, it is nonetheless the best and most accessible account of events. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ezo But if you want to read a very full account I recommend Unseen Japan's piece here: https://unseen-japan.com/samurai-democracy-republic-of-ezo/ Music: Dova-syndrome #animation #storytime
