Video Description
B.C. Premier David Eby provided remarks following day one of the annual Western Premiers Conference in Kananaskis, Alta. on Monday. The gathering happens as Alberta is moving toward triggering a vote on separation after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced last week that an October referendum question will ask Albertans if they want to remain in Canada or start the process to hold a binding referendum on separation. "To say that this is the worst time to begin testing the bonds that hold this country together is a significant understatement. It threatens our national economy. It empowers the people who would break our country up and sell us for parts. And it's not what Canadians want, it's not what British Columbians want, it's not what Albertans want," Eby said. Eby went on to describe Canada's provinces as "being in a big family," highlighting that even though sometimes people don't get their way, they "still find a way to hold things together because you know that you're better together than you are apart."
